The EU digital COVID-19 certificate came into effect from July 1, 2021 and is scheduled to last until June 31, 2022. All EU and Schengen countries currently issue and accept the certificate, as well as European countries outside the bloc and some third countries, including Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Faroe Islands, Georgia, Israel, Moldova, Monaco, Morocco, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Panama, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Vatican.
However, since a new wave has been developed again whose epicenter is Europe, the European Union plans that the Covid-19 certificate will have a validity of 12 months, from the application of the third dose or called booster of the vaccine. This proposal would be presented to the Council this coming Friday.
This has been published by the SchengenVisaInformation portal, citing Euractiv.com that attributes the information to sources from the European bloc. The information indicates that fully vaccinated travelers will have to take a booster dose 12 months after receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or the single dose if the vial is a single dose. There are many countries that have already fully vaccinated the majority of their population, such is the case of Norway, whose 78% of the population is fully immunized and is offering reinforcement to its people over 65 for this year and for the next year it would be giving the third dose to the youngest people. France, for its part, has been a bit more radical in the applicability of the certificate, requiring the use of it for entry to restaurants, bars and closed places.
