That is why the Government will distribute 170 million euros among the autonomous communities to finance energy efficiency and circular economy projects in accommodation (hotels, campsites, tourist establishments and rural tourism) within the framework of the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience, in the press conference after the Council of Minister, it is expected that a total of 2,627 establishments throughout Spain will benefit from this investment.

With this initiative, the Government intends to increase the competitiveness of tourism companies through the development of energy efficiency and circular economy projects that contribute to reducing energy costs and the carbon footprint.

In addition, tourism companies will also be able to finance sustainable projects through the State Financial Fund for Tourism Competitiveness (FOCIT), which has an endowment of 570 million euros.

How the territorial distribution will be:

The autonomous communities must allocate, through the calls for subsidies, the budget that has corresponded to the tourist accommodation companies defined in the agreement of the Sectorial Conference: natural or legal persons who own existing buildings for tourist accommodation, or companies operators, tenants or concessionaires of this type of buildings.

The improvement of the energy efficiency of the thermal envelope, the use of renewable energies in thermal installations for heating, cooling, air conditioning and domestic hot water, and the improvement of lighting installations will be subsidized.

The term of execution of the eligible actions will be until December 31, 2024, unless the previously available budget had been exhausted.
