A few weeks ago from Chekin we announced that the highest percentage of reservations for this summer was taken by national reserves, 80% to be exact, and that international reserves were only taking the remaining 20%, distributed among French, Germans, Italians and a few British.
Search trends
Search trends show that as vaccination progresses, interest in travel appears to be increasing. People want to travel because they feel safer booking a trip. From the data extracted in Destination Insights with Google on searches abroad for flights to Spain during the month of May 2021, the following stand out:
- Since mid-May, search interest has grown more than 50% for flights across Europe, with Spain, Italy and France topping the list of desirable destinations.
- Travel searches to Spain in a clear growing trend during May.
- European source markets are consolidated and lead countries such as Germany and France in travel searches to Spain while the United Kingdom moves to third place.
- The 5 most searched cities globally for Spain are Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Ibiza.
What is the origin of travel searches to Spain?
We see that the majority of travel searches to Spain are carried out by Germans, followed by the French and to a lesser extent by the British.
On the other hand, as can be seen from a new report by the Connected Commerce Council, an entity funded by Google, digital tools have functioned as a “safety net” for small and medium-sized European travel companies during the pandemic: 86 % of them have increased the use of digital tools in that period and, of these, more than half say they plan to use them even more after the pandemic. There is no doubt that the implementation of these new technologies have influenced the increase in reservations and mobility in many companies in the sector.
