This was undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited weeks of the year, as much of the hopes for recovery were pinned on Easter, which yielded very good numbers, as had been projected.
This has been indicated by the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT) “The data from Easter has been very positive throughout Spain and we are very happy to see that the desire to travel has not been diminished after the pandemic,” said Jorge Marichal, president of CEHAT, anticipating that with these figures “this summer we can speak not only of a recovery but of a stabilisation of demand and the tourism sector”.
The online newspaper Hosteltur indicates that the survey carried out by CEHAT confirms that the figures have been very similar in all areas, although inland tourism stands out, “with an occupancy rate of over 90%”. According to the employers’ association, last week’s weather worked in favour of companies in sun and beach destinations, which have reached a hotel occupancy rate of 85%, and snow tourism also recorded positive figures, as 80% of the places offered were occupied.
Although the balance has been positive throughout the territory, meeting the forecast, the CEHAT representative stressed that “we cannot lose sight of the fact that operational costs have increased considerably and that we are moving in a difficult national and international panorama”. For this reason, he stated that businessmen “will therefore need help and tools to overcome the obstacles”.
It is important to bear in mind that at the moment not all Spanish hotels are open, there are establishments that remain closed for works and renovations, and others that, due to cost increases, have decided to postpone their operations until the summer season approaches.
