The activation of its new sustainable tourism intelligence system, a digital tool, which they indicate, will allow the sector to have updated data from multiple sources, to take decisions and improve the competitiveness of companies and the destination.
The city has incorporated this platform into its official tourism page www.lpavisit.com, within its strategy as a smart tourist destination. The system, which can be accessed openly, incorporates data related to the evolution of accommodation and travelers, tourist spending, maritime and air transport, activity in tourist offices, the use of shared bicycles or experience of the visitor and the digital reputation of the destination. It is a tool that, as explained by the City Council, is based on data and experiences and as indicated by Councilor Pedro Quevedo, this tool will help to know how the data evolves to facilitate the work of public institutions and companies in the process of taking decisions. decisions. “Ultimately, put technology at the service of the sector to update and improve services and resources, and incorporate measures and travel experiences adapted to travelers in post-covid time,” said Quevedo.
The project, carried out with the participation of the consulting firm Vivential Value, specialized in innovation in tourism intelligence, is materialized in an interactive data viewer that can be accessed through the city’s Tourism website www.lpavisit.com with continuous updating, “in which three key requirements have been prioritized, the sustainability of the system itself, its adaptation to the sources that are being incorporated and the transfer of knowledge to the sector”, as explained by Rafael Gonzalez
For this, the public sources of data that are already available throughout the territory have been prioritized to guarantee the sustainability of the intelligence system, over time. Quevedo highlighted and thanked “the collaboration and contributions of the Canary Institute of Statistics, ISTAC, Turismo de Gran Canaria and SAGULPA, which lead the generation of some of the data layers integrated in the new tourist knowledge viewer of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ”.
Finally, with the aim of consolidating a data culture in the sector, the transfer of the knowledge generated will be done thanks to a three-level architecture: a synthetic panel for management, in mobile app format, with indicators, KPIs, permanently updated and searchable. from anywhere; a complete and detailed interactive reporting system tailored to the destination, which allows municipal managers to consult microdata for operational and strategic management; and an open data viewer that can be consulted on the destination’s official website, where users can access the system through a highly graphical and intuitive table.
