Unlike what is happening at the beginning of the year with hotel reservations, holiday rentals in the Canary Islands have started a year with occupancy figures that are reminiscent of the time before the covid. They handle figures of between 70% and 80% of occupancy in holiday homes throughout the archipelago. Figures that, according to the newspaper COPE, are easing the economy of this sector.
Javier Valentín, vice president of the Canarian Association of Vacation Homes, reported for the aforementioned digital newspaper that it is an unusual season for owners. That is, they maintain good figures, but there is a lot of uncertainty about the omicron variant and its effects on the sector.
“In effect, this winter season is unusual for homes because, although we maintain good figures, it is true that there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the cancellation of tourist forecasts for January and February. That is why they are canceling us due to the uncertainty that also exists in the rest of Europe ”, he adds.
Around the Canary Islands occupancy is hovering around 80% in holiday homes and with isolated houses with swimming pools it is indicated that they even reach 100%. But the forecast is that it remains at 70-80% occupancy. Situation that depends a lot on the evolution or not of the new Omicron variant.
