How to Legally Register Guests in the State of Florida

Whether you manage a rural house, campsite, a hostel or tourist home advertised on an OTA platform (such as Airbnb, HomeAway and Booking), the state of Florida requires you to register and maintain records of your guests. However, the exact details and duration of this requirement varies depending on the city.

These requirements can be challenging to keep up with, especially for hosts who are renting homes in more than one municipality.

Here, we tell you what your responsibility is as a home sharing host in Florida.

According to Title XXXIII, Chapter 509:

“It is the duty of each operator of a transient establishment to maintain at all times a register, signed by or for guests who occupy rental units within the establishment, showing the dates upon which the rental units were occupied by such guests and the rates charged for their occupancy. This register shall be maintained in chronological order and available for inspection by the division at any time. Operators need not make available registers which are more than 2 years old.”
