How is the Global Hotel Market? Which countries have more bookings and who is traveling?
As every week we worry about knowing how the hospitality market is changing, what are the current trends, which countries are having more or less reservations, which cities are the most visited, who travels and for how long they do it, all of this. so that you can know first-hand the data that influence to a greater or lesser extent your sales.
Thus, we have that the travelgateX platform shows us this week a comparison of the reservations of this month of July of the year 2021 with the reservations of the year 2021, with this, we evaluate the level of recovery that the hotel sector is having.
Within the Top 4 of Booked Countries we have:
- Spain continues to lead with 37% of global reserves, although this month of July starts at negative levels compared to 2019, 4.45% less than previous years.
- The United States is second with 24.35% of world reserves, but unlike Spain, this July if it starts with positive numbers, 4.01% more than the levels of 2019.
- In third place this week we find Italy that happens to replace Portugal. Italy takes 5.22% of world hotel reservations although with a slight decrease compared to 2019, of 0.96%.
- Portugal comes to occupy the fourth place with 4.24% of world hotel reservations, showing a notable decrease of 1.43% mainly due to the recent announcements of new perimeter closures in response to the new covid-19 variant and the increase of new infections.

This shows us that almost 90% of the reservations are being made in a period of 1-60 days. What is striking about these graphs is that compared to previous weeks, we see that the percentage of reservations made 30-60 days in advance has grown in this month of July, which leads us to conclude that tourists are calmly planning their next vacation.
Who are traveling?
We see that 56% is represented by trips as a couple, on family trips that decreases to 11%, compared to previous months, it seems that this will be a summer without children and more of reunion between couples, perhaps to clear the stress that being confined could produce in many people.
How long do they stay?
The graph shows us that the trend remains in 2-5 days with 41%. The stays are shorter, we could say that these numbers are very similar to those of the year 2019.
