July: The preferred month for tourists to visit Spain. Discover these 6 trends

As reviewed by the B2B platform TravelgateX, Spain remains positioned as the European number 1 in tourist reservations. We know that it has not been easy for this country to stay in this position, there have been many comings and goings as a result of Covid-19 and the strong damage it has caused in different sectors of the economy, but mainly in the tourism sector, which has left in 2020 practically destroyed, but that has been rising at the pace of ants in this year 2021.

One of the strong blows that Spanish tourism has received has been the strong restrictions imposed by the governments of Germany and the United Kingdom, so that their nationals can travel to Spain, restrictions that undoubtedly at the beginning generated a sharp decline in prices. reservation numbers, remember that these two markets are the base of many of the most touristic areas of Spain, such as the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. According to data issued by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics, in 2019, British and German tourists accounted for around a third of total arrivals.

However, and despite this, Spain has juggled to get these tourists to travel to their favorite destination, from political meetings to the implementation of strong security measures that give confidence to both nationals and international tourists.

In this thread of ideas, what would be described as the 6 trends that have made Spain remain at the top of the ranking of the most visited and searched countries this 2020 has recently been published by the web portal tecnotravel, and here we reproduce them:

1. Germany and the UK are very interested in tourism in Spain despite the restrictions.

Despite the restrictions, they continue to be the first nationalities in the number of searches to Spain. However, the trend is positive and travel intentions to the peninsula do not diminish. From June 1 to June 30, up to 25.6 million flights were searched.

2. July is the preferred month for tourists to come to Spain

In any case, July is the preferred month if we only consider the summer months. The vast majority of searches, 57.2%, are for trips that arrive within the month of July.

3. The countries that most want to come to Spanish territory

In addition to Spaniards, who represent 22.6%, 22.6% of travelers come mainly from Brazil. The next are Portugal (20.4%), the United Kingdom (10.0%), Germany (9.0%) and Italy (6.1%).

4. Individual flights triumph

On average, 72% are looking for a flight for just one person; 20% are couples and 8% families. Users in Portugal have the highest rate of searches for travelers on their own (81%), while Brazilians seek little family travel.

5. Preference according to the day and month

Travelers prefer to leave on Friday or Monday and the most popular dates are the first weekends in July. Searches, in fact, gradually decrease, halving in the third week of August. The data does not reveal any peak for August, but rather there appears to be a strong interest in the period from July 30 to August 3rd.

Italian travelers are the only ones who have different preferences, since, compared to other nationalities, the most desired month is August. This represents 49.7% of searches, while July weighs 40.7%. All the interest is concentrated in the period from August 7 to 16, in which the average number of daily searches doubles, from 23.4 thousand to 46.5 thousand a day.

6. British demand is concentrated in the Balearic Islands.

The trend of British searches towards Spain registered a considerable peak on July 1, that is, after the Balearic Islands became part of the Green List of COVID-19 destinations. Along with Malta, the Spanish archipelago is the only Mediterranean destination granted to British travelers.

This rebound (+ 275%) only lasted three days, but searches by the English are still higher than in previous weeks. Currently, British demand is mainly concentrated towards the Balearic Islands. Thus, 62% of the flights searched in the last month were to reach the archipelago, while the remaining part is distributed equally in the rest of the country.

The insecurity of this market can be read in the information about the exit dates. In this way, the fear of new restrictions and the uncertainty about the future push British users to try to reach Spain immediately, with last-minute trips in the first weeks of July. Flights departing between July 1 and 17 represent 47.5% of the total number of flights searched by the British.
