When we start in the tourist rental business we are not always very clear about the profile that the guests who will come to our accommodation will have, perhaps we have a vague idea, perhaps due to similar accommodations, and the way we promote, however, this is not we know all right until after a long time.
In hotels, hostels and houses for rent by rooms there are always two realities, the ideal guest that we have in mind and want to attract, and the client who actually reserves, that is why knowing our ideal client will be key to increasing our reservations.
Hotel Guest Profiles
But what does knowing the profile of your guest consist of. A guest profile is a representation of the demographic that visits your property most regularly. Defining this profile will help you understand the type of clients that your property attracts and thus you can create specific marketing campaigns and give a defined focus to your brand. If you don’t know the profile of your customers, most of your efforts to attract more bookings are ineffective, in the best of cases. You won’t be able to craft the types of offers, messages, and strategies that best suit your demographics without first knowing your ideal guest.
Currently there is a specific group of travelers that we could classify into small groups and that will help you discover what the current profile of your guests is and what type of customers you want to attract:
1.- Generation Z Travelers
These are the most common, young travelers, made up mostly of students who are on vacation and eager to discover new cultures. These types of guests, although they have a tight budget, are not willing to skimp on paying for a good internet connection, spaces that have laundry facilities and a good central location. Technology is key for this type of traveler.
2.-Digital Nomads
This group is growing day by day and after the pandemic, there seems to have been a boom in this type of guest. But who are they? digital nomads are remote workers, people who are not tied to a physical space. who can travel and work at the same time. Some are entrepreneurs, while others work remotely for a company. The common denominator is that they have a lot of flexibility in terms of mobility. Also, they almost never travel in large groups. Given the nature of your work, Internet connectivity is the highest priority. Slow or unreliable Wi-Fi is often a deal breaker. Digital nomads expect a flexible space that can be used for work and play.
We could describe these types of guests as one of the best for your business, they are mainly looking for connectivity and comfort, they are hardworking so perhaps they do not skimp on expenses and also if you have a good upselling strategy they could be very good clients.
3.- Tourists
These are occasional travelers, who can travel once or twice a year, depending on your company’s vacation policy, they usually travel in groups, family. These types of travelers have a good budget, especially when traveling as a family, however they are very selective on what to spend them on. Tourists appreciate travel tips and advice, although they may not always ask for it directly. As mentioned above, these have done their research, so offering some guidance tips will help them solidify their plans or tweak them a bit. Equally, it would be a good idea to provide them with a local guide at check-in and perhaps a map with all the main attractions marked.
4.- Boomer travelers
Generation Boomers are retiring in droves and are making travel a key activity in their retirement, which caused them to spend about $ 6,300 on four or five leisure trips in 2018. These people are likely to have a little more money to spend than other types of guests. They often travel in pairs or groups and generally do not take children with them.
5.- Backpackers
Backpackers tend to pay close attention to rates and only require what is necessary when it comes to their accommodation. This type of guest makes several trips a year and to different destinations, so they do not usually return frequently to the same places.
6.- Luxury travelers
Luxury travelers have higher expectations and are willing to spend their money on the experience. While price may not be their biggest concern, the value they get is. Luxury travelers often do their research before their trip (often in consultation with a travel advisor), so they have a general idea of what they would like to do. These travelers are usually older, but this can vary.
