Pact between Seville and Malaga to approve tourist tax

As reported by the web daily Tourinews, the mayors of Malaga and Seville plan to form a common front regarding the creation of a tourist tax in both cities.

According to Sur, the mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, and his counterpart from Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, have held a meeting in which both have agreed to collaborate in order for a tax on tourist overnight stays to be approved at regional level.

The goal is for visitors to contribute to the financing of the public services provided, as well as to obtain new resources for the promotion of both destinations. Both cities want to form a common front to get the approval of the Junta de Andalucía, which has the power in this respect.Currently, the tourist tax in Spain is only in force in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. From 2024, the Valencian Community will join them, while the city of San Sebastian (Guipuzcoa) is discussing this possibility.
