The new European DNI 4.0 is already in force. Discover the new features and its validity
This past August 2 has been announced the entry into force of the new DNI 4.0 or also known as European DNI, which will be mandatory for use throughout the European Union, from the indicated date. There are several new features that this new identity document incorporates, and its validity period will be 5 and 10 years.
Now the question that many are asking is, has my current ID lost its validity?. Of course not, it remains in force until its expiration date or until August 3, 2031.
Which are the new additions?
This new document incorporates features that are common to the entire European community in terms of design and size. So, it will be standardized among all member countries and it will be easier to identify citizens, since one of the new additions is the possibility of reading the information in two languages, Spanish and English.
This new European DNI includes biometric information, such as the fingerprint or the user’s face, its size will be 85.60 x 53.98 mm, it does not vary much compared to the current one in this regard, but it will include modifications on both sides of the document. For example, the inclusion of the letters ES corresponding to Spain, which is in a blue rectangle, surrounded by the yellow stars that symbolize the European Union.
This also includes a microchip with storage capacity to save the photo, signature and fingerprint of its bearer, in addition to the authentication and Electronic Signature certificates.
As for security, what new additions does it bring?
Since this new DNI registers more personal information, new security measures have been incorporated to protect the citizen, both visible and invisible to the eye that make it more difficult to falsify.
What is the highlight of this new DNI?
Undoubtedly, one of the key aspects is the guarantee of the citizen’s digital identity, the possibility that the citizen can enjoy the benefits offered by information technology, in its application to electronic commerce and electronic administration.
In other words, in a few months, citizens will be able to register their ID on mobile devices, to use it in official applications currently being prepared by countries such as Spain and others in the EU. This would bring as a benefit the fact that the citizen does not have to carry the ID on him all day, with the certainty that if he forgets it at home, he will be able to use it through his mobile, without any problem, which will allow him not to just identify yourself but also use the electronic signature from the phone.
These facilities are proposed by Spain, while the EU proposes even more interesting aspects, such as the possibility of paying your taxes, fines, etc. serve as a communication channel between the citizen and national and local administrations
What is the Express DNI about?
This is a proposal of the Spanish Government, and it deals with the possibility of creating a semi-automatic dispatch system that promises to reduce “waiting times in ordinary renovations and will increase security by obtaining the photograph in situ”.
A measure that is accompanied by an increase in “Unassisted Update” positions of the electronic DNI that seeks to facilitate the renewal of digital certificates and the payment of fees by card.
