The tool that will detect those who offer vacation homes without a license
One piece of news that has many people on alert is the current reorganization and updating of data that many of the communities in Spain are carrying out, with a view to sincerifying the number of tourist accommodations in the country. All of this has forced many to have to get in line with the law and start legalizing their properties as required by each province or community in particular.
Yesterday recently the government of Gijon has announced the implementation of a tool that will be able to detect when an accommodation is or is not in accordance with the law and complies with all the requirements for its operation.
This has been reported in the newspaper El Comercio, which indicates that the municipal Tourism authorities will act for the first time against those owners who offer accommodation in apartments and houses without having them in order. The technicians of the service, currently integrated in the Municipal Business Center (Gijón Impulsa), already have a cutting-edge technological tool that allows tracking all the offer that is advertised on Internet portals such as Airbnb or Booking to detect possible cases of illicit or fraudulent activity. That is, people who operate without the license required by the Principality to rent their homes to tourists and are exercising unfair competition with those who do comply with all legal requirements established by the administration.
The application will allow to collate data with other municipal departments such as Urbanism and will point out on an interactive map of Gijón what is on offer and where is what is being offered. All those vacation rental options that show the license in their ads will be reflected in the tool, which already allows to eliminate many options to investigate one by one the cases where there may be any irregularity. In case of discovering an illegal activity, it will be reported to the Principality, which is the competent administration in the matter to open proceedings.
This technological development even has the capacity to redirect to the advertisement of the web portals where the images of the rooms and complete apartments that are made available to visitors appear.
The technological tool will be presented by the Visita Gijón team, with its director Daniel Martínez Junquera at the head, will be presented shortly along with a campaign to encourage the regulation of all holiday homes in the municipality for the sake of legality, as well as the safety and welfare of tourists coming to Gijón.
