The top performing cities at the peak of summer 2021

This summer 2021 has been the most anticipated after so long by many countries, and the boom has occurred mostly in the markets where we find rural resorts, urban vacation rentals are still on the radars of travelers. With the wide distribution of vaccines and the reopening of country borders, many cities are already beginning to notice the effects.

On this occasion, the Rental United company has made an analysis of six countries with the cities with the greatest growth, and observed how the countries are recovering compared to the 2019 data. These countries are Spain, United Kingdom, France, Greece, Italy and the United States, comparing current performance with that of 2019.

Thus, the Short Term Rentals platform shows us the evolution of these countries, which we reproduce below:

USA:

Over the past two months, bookings made in New York have started to increase again. Compared to 2019, New York is experiencing an average 258 percent increase in reserve bookings in the past eight weeks.

Since the implementation of vaccination in the US is one of the fastest in the world, people feel safer to travel within the country and to other cities.

According to Rentals United data, current Miami Beach bookings are also outperforming 2019 with an average increase of 123 percent in weeks 23-30.
United Kingdom
Brighton is one of the top destinations for tourists in the UK. With strict travel restrictions still in place, many UK travelers are once again giving up their overseas holidays and choosing to stay in the UK. However, since the pandemic, Brighton has seen an increase in bookings with a percentage increase of 67.5% compared to 2019.
Spain

As Spain recovers, Barcelona is taking a little longer to return to pre-pandemic times. With the increase in Covid cases in Barcelona over the last two weeks, it was clearly affected by bookings. Barcelona is starting to look a bit more positive in terms of bookings, but we still see an average percentage decrease of -28.4% compared to 2019.

Greece

The demand for vacation rentals in Greece has been huge this summer and that includes Athens as well. Vacation rentals in Greece are especially popular with travelers from Spain, France and Italy.

Thanks to its open borders and relaxed restrictions, compared to 2019, Athens has seen an average percentage increase of more than 201 percent.

France

Despite the lockdowns and restrictions that France has had to endure, performance in Paris is beginning to recover compared to 2019. Over the past four weeks, bookings made are beginning to close the gap with 2019 performance.

Italy:

Italy as a whole is recovering tremendously well, thanks to its popularity with French travelers who can cross the border by car. Italian cities, on the other hand, are taking a little longer to recover.

However, there have been some positive trends over the last 8 weeks. Bookings being created for 2021 appear to be on the rise, and last week in Milan alone bookings were only down 18% compared to the same statistics in 2019.

In this way, we can observe a positive growth of the world’s most reserved cities, perhaps they are not the same numbers as 2019, but it is indeed a gradual recovery and with good projections for the future.
