The document will be officially valid throughout the European Union on July 1 of 2021, however, some countries can already use the tool from this Tuesday, June 1, after the digital platform that allows the interoperability of the document between the Member States starts working. This in order to facilitate the mobility in the summer holidays, among all those who can demonstrate that they are vaccinated against covid-19, that have a negative PCR test or that they have antibodies , for having overcome the disease. In this sense, the governments of the States that adopt this tool have agreed not to force quarantine, as long as it is proven that they are healthy.
Countries such as Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia and Poland connected to this platform on Tuesday, according to the European Commission.
The certificate, which will run for twelve months, will be binding across the EU for vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which has for now validated drugs from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Jannsen.
However, each country will be free to decide whether to accept other vaccines not authorized by the EMA, such as the Russian Sputnik V or the Chinese Sinopharm.
