Booking will require hotels to present a deposit as a guarantee of payment
Recently it was announced by the booking platform Booking, a change in the contracting conditions with the hotels, specifically with regard to payments, in which the need to consider a deposit as a guarantee of future payments has been added. The hotels will have a period of two weeks to sign these new conditions and be able to continue maintaining the service.
It is important to note that this condition is not new, previously the Booking company applied it to those companies that had presented delays in their payments, however, it has been extended to all solvent and non-solvent customers.
But what is this new conditioner about? How much is the deposit?
According to information provided by the Smarttravel digital platform, it is a general requirement, necessary to be able to have the Booking service, which in some way avoids delays in payments. The accommodation will pay a deposit to Booking.com equal to a minimum of the sum of the three highest invoices for Commissions owed or paid to Booking.com in the previous 12 months or any other amount reasonably determined by Booking.com to its discretion and solicitude. The company will keep this deposit for the duration of the agreement between the accommodation and the platform, and will return it at the end of the same.
Enforceability of Parity
In this new Booking condition it also contemplates the so-called “Parity Clause”, in which it makes some demands in relation to rates and room availability.
The Accommodation must grant Booking service, the same conditions that it grants to the company’s competitors. Equal rates for the same type of room, the same dates, the same type of bed, the same number of clients, the same or better additional comforts and services, the same or better restrictions and conditions, such as, for example, the changes in reservations and cancellation conditions available on the websites.
Regarding availability parity, the Accommodation will provide Booking.com with an availability that is at least as favorable as that provided to any Booking.com competitor (including any online or offline booking agency or intermediary) or to any other third party ( online or offline) that is a collaborating partner of the Accommodation or is related in any other way with it.
With this, what the Booking company seeks is to obtain the best available room price, in this sense, the Client who makes a reservation at the Accommodation cannot obtain a better price directly, or through another (third) party, or through another medium or channel.
